WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

MEETING AT WAIOTAHI' . The Waiotahi Women’s. Institute held its monthly meeting on October 0, Mrs. L. V. Looney presiding over a good attendance. A very interesting letter was received from a member of the 2nd. Echelon in England, thanking- the Institute for parcels received, and enclosing a note Iron one of our parcels. Three new members were welcomed to the Institute: Mesdames Sergeant and Calder, and Miss M. Clayton. Mrs. C. White gave a very full account of tho Federation meet.ng at Matata. Members of the Waimana Women’s Institute presented a most enjoyable programme, including a play entitled “The Newly R.cli”, written by the late Mrs. A. P. Wylde. A game of Musical Groups proved entertaining and a competition, knitting on tooth picks was won by Mesdames. L. Looney and M. Anderson. The Waimana Glee Club presented the “Wedding of the Painted Doll” in costumo, also two beautifully sung glees, which concluded the programme.

A stall for Federation Funds was well patronised, and the competitions, which wero judged by the Waimana ladies, resulted as follows :

Decorated Basket: Mrs, W. L. Looney 1, Mrs. Snell 2. Best Bloom: Mrs. L. V. Looney ], Mrs. P. Looney 2.

Best Vegetable: Mrs. L. V. Looney 1, Mrs. W. L. Looney 2. Collection of Slq-übs: Mrs. W. L. Looney 1, Mrs. Du Pontet 2.

Shortbread: Mrs. L. V. Looney 1, Mrs. P. Looney 2.

Afternoon tea was. served by the hostesses, Mesdames M. Anderson, Reeve, Wyllie, A. Ran, Toone and Du Pontet, and a hearty vote of thanks to the visitors was carried by acclamation. The singing of the National Anthem, led by the Glee Club, brought an excellent afternoon to a close.

WAIOTAHI GARDEN CIRCLE The September meeting of the Waiotahi Carden Circle was. held at Mrs. A. Watson’s home. The garden and beautiful 'flowering shrubs were much admired and a very pleasant afternoon spent. Choice carnation cuttings were on sale, and a mcq sum realised for funds.

The competitions wero judged by Mrs. IV. A. Smith anil resulted as follows’:—

Vase of Iceland Poppies for effect: Mrs. Watson I, Mrs. W. Looncv 2. Best Lettuce: Mrs. W. Looney L Mrs. Watson 2.

Presentation Box: Mrs. J. Looney 1, Miss Du Pontet 2. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames J. Looney and Clayton, and a hearty vote of thanks passed to Mrs. Watson and the hostesses.
