Silvered Pennies. - A neat deception was perpetrated upon a Gisborne shopkeeper last week by means of a silvered penny. The coin, which was effectively slivered, was handed over the counter, head uppermost, as tender for a two-shilling piece, and change was given accordingly. The"'transaction took place at a busy period when the deception was most likely to succeed, and it was not until afterwards, when the cash was being counted, that the shopkeeper discovered that the coin was only a penny.
