. MONTHLY MEETING , There was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the Women's Uhnstian Temperance Un.on, neid last Thursday. Alter the devotional period, business was attended to. A request was received loi help for the bailors’ Rests m New Plymouth and Tiinaru, and it was decided to send a donation. Mrs. J. T. Thompson, who was one of the delegates to the tiouth Auckland District Convention helci at Frankton, gave an interest.ng and comprehensive roxroit on the proceedings there. She said it was a great inspiration to meet with so many women with high ideals. Mrs. Christian, of Tauranga, district pres.dent, and Miss McLay, of. Titirangi, were the cliief~speakcrs. An article was read pointing out that during the first five months 61 this year, .there was'an actual increase over last •year of £21,000 for importation of whisky, and a decrease of £2,000,000 for motor-cars, and 17,000,000 gallons less of motoi spirit. - Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. T. Fleming and Mrs. Corncy.
