ANNUAL REPORT
The president presented the following report on the past season’s activities: —
The past season was definitely a successful one, especially cons.dering the fact that war broke out at the commencement of our season.
Record must bo made here firstly of the immediate response to the coolers of quite a number of our most staunch and active members. These and subsequent, enlistments made a. big drain on the number oi competing members, but nevertheless the club “kept its end up” and saw tho season through to a successful conclusion.
Public support was quite good, tho financial position being sound, and a good profit was shown ou last year’s workings-.
The club was represented at several meetings throughput, tho Province and performed very creditably. Two or three members competed at Paeroa, Matamata and Tauranga, J. Inskipi securing (5 wins and E. Upton 2 places. A club team attended a night meeting at Gisborne and 4 wins were recorded.
The G. S. Moody Banner was won by; the club for the first time since its inauguration in 1936, when Gisborne won the banner and retained it until last season. Several dances were held and proved to be most popular and successful social evenings. Regular fortnightly night meetings were held, nominations being rather small, the result being an abbreviated programme at practically every night meeting. The cause of such is obvious and has been referred to earlier in the report. Cycling especially was very poorly nominated, the two- Storcr boys being the sole stalwarts. The committee proved an ideal combination, working hard and well. Their co-operative efforts undoubtedly helped towards the success of the past year. Finally thanks go to one- and all who helped in any and every way to once again make a happy and successful season.
