WEST INDIES FORTS INTENTIONS OF VICHY (News by Cable.) WASHINGTON, Oct. 2. President Roosevelt told a press conference to-day that the Government of the United States had not been advised officially concerning the plans of the Vichy Government to strengthen Martinique. When informed of the statement yesterday attributed to Mr. Henry Haye, concerning the similarity of the viewpoints of the two Governments, Mr. Roosevelt said he was utterly astonished. He said ho would not have believed that the Ambassador would have made such a statement.
