A German communique issued in Berlin to-day stated: “The air force bombed a number of military targets at Dover, Folkestone, Ashfoid, Hastings, Ncwhaven, Brighton and Southampton. Several successful air battles were fought. “A merchantman was sunk and another merchantman set on fire olf the south-east coast of Ireland. Another was heavily damaged by a bomb off Northern Ireland. A speed boat sank a merchantman off the south coast of England. “The air force carried out strong reprisals against London targets and also at Liverpool and Cardiff. The enemy lost 20 planes. Four of our s are missing. Majors Moclders and Galland have won their fortieth air victories.”
