WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

WOODLANDS MEETING The Woodlands Women’s Institute met recently with a good attendance of members, Mrs. Hollard, vice-president, occupying the chair. The meeting opened with the National Anthem, Institute Song and New Zealand Anthem. It was decided in view of benzine restrictions to hold the annual flower show in the Parish Hall, Opotiki, on Thursday, October 31st. It was also agreed to. send 10s to the Leper Fund. The roll call, “Three best wartime economics’’ was answered with some very good suggestions. The entries in the competitions were excellent, those gaining first place being: Mrs. Price, bed sox for Red Cross ; Mrs. Briggs and Mrs. McGregor (equal), for flowers in an unusual container, (a kettle and small preserving pan respectively). Afternoon tea wasi served by the hostesses, Mrs. Noble and Mrs. McCaldon. A humorous reading brought the meeting to a close.
