Our readers will notice tliat we have reverted to the condition m which we first presented ourselves to the light of day — that is to say we appea,r as One sheet and an outrigger. The fact is that, m our desire to he generous, we have been giving too much space to advertisers, and m justice to ourselves •we have resolved to reduce the advertising space m future to a limit commensurate with its strict commercial value. Our one sheet, therefore, is by no means a winding- sheet ; we are not dead, not sick, not sorry, but simply sensible and economical. The quantity of our reading matter will not be reduced at all ; the only difference m this iournal will be that henceforth the adversisements will be for the most part relegated to the " swinger" — -if we may be allowed to borrow a hardy phrase from our valued contemporary the " North Canterbury Times." Advertisers will find us as useful to them as heretofore, and the general reader will have a growing sense of the value of our literary pabulum, which— like many another good thing — is packed m a small parcel. Accident. — On Sunday, Jantiary 26th, a rather severe accident occiirred to Mr James Fisher, who was riding to Oxford from Springfield. It appears that the night became very dark after Mr Fisher crossed the Waiinakariri Bridge — so dark that the horse was trusted to keep the track without the interference of the rider, and naturally took the nearest track, •which is dangerously rough, and the result was that he went over the embankment. Mr Fisher was too much hurt to mount again, and continued to drag himself painfully towards his home at West Oxford, which he reached about daylight. From latest enquiries, we learn that the sufferer is progressing favorably. Lunar Rainbow. — One cf the most brilliant of these sights was visible on Sunday evening last. There was a very heavy fog or mist, and the rainbow extended apparently from Burnt Hill to Starvation m a south-easterly direction. At the same time the moon, shining through the fog, was surrounded by a (halo, the colors of which were almost as vivid as those of a Solar Rainbow. Oxford Races. — A meeting of persons interested m these Races was held at Mr Ingram' s auction room on Thursday last, when there was a fair attendance. After transacted a considerable amount of business, the meeting adjourned till Monday evening next, at 8 o'clock, when Stewards will be elected, and the date of the Races fixed. Harvest Festival. —We understand that a Harvest Festival will be held m Oxford shortly, full particulars of which will appear m these columns.
