OXFORD V CAUL ETON.
This match was pla\cd m Mitchell's paddock on Saturday afternoon lust, resulting m a win for the former by four wickets. Oxford went to the wickets first, but, with the exception of W. Ryde (34), none of the batsmen were able to cotye with the splendid bowling of O'Hara and Mussen. The fielding of the Carleton team was very loose, no less than 19 byes being scored. Carleton m their first innings were all out for 27, the bowling of G. and W. Ryde, and the wicket- keeping of Brown proving too good for them. They had to follow-on, and managed to put together 83 runs before they were all disposed of. Cro-s (37), and Mussen (18), were the highest scorers, The fielding of the Oxford team was first-class, and, with a little more practice, they should be abla to .hold their own with any of the Clubs m the district. Oxford, requiring 37 runs to win, went m for their second innings, and scored the necessary number with the loss of six wickets, thus winning as stated abuve. The following are the. scores :— Oxfoku. A. match will be played at 2 o'clock this afternoon, between members of the Oxford Club, when sides will be chosen by the Captain and Secretary. The following will be the players: -Captain's side : W. Kyde, Dee, Henderson, Dempsey, Thompson, Harbidge, Parkinson, Hooper, and Pritchard. Secretary's side : G. R\ de, Brown, Bluett, Weld, Reston, Daliey, Smith, Luers, and Reeves. It is lutnored that arrangments are being made for a costume match to take place on ■St. Andrew's Day. As this will be the first one ever held m the district, no doubt it will prove a great attraction.
