CHURCH ARMY HUTS.

MEETING OF THE CLERGY.

A meeting of the clergy of $Te Aroha, Waihi, Thames, and Paeroa was held in the Parish Hall, Paeroa, yesterday morning, in connection with the Church Army Hut Fund.

The Rev. G. H. Morse, of Te Aroha, stated that in response to appeals for funds to replace some of the one hundred huts destroyed by the recent German offensives, the people of Te Aroha and Piako had raised £720 for the purpose of building a hut, to be known as the Te Aroha-Piako Hut.

The Rev. R. L. Connolly said that previous to the appeals for Red Cross funds £150 had been raised at Waihi for the Hut Bund. Now that the Red Cross canvas was completed a further appeal was being made, which he felt sure would bring the Waihi contributions up to £300. He suggested that Thames and Paeroa should combine with Waihi in raising funds to build a hut to be known as the Hauraki Hut.

Rev. A. J. Beck, of Thames, said that a commencement had been made at Thames for the same purpose, which would be continued as soon as the Red Cross canvas was finished, By which, he felt sure, that Thames would raise a further £300, and that If Paeroa, including the Hauraki Plains could raise £200, the total of £800 would build and furnish a hut and maintain it in the field for twelve months.

The Rev. F. B. Dobson said that the Paeroa district had a few pounds in hand for the same purpose, and that he would ask the vestry fco*iake the necessary steps to make up the £200. MEETING OF THE VESTRY. At a meeting of the vestry of $t. Paul's Church held in the evening it was decided to ask . the Mayor of Paeroa for a permit to make a public appeal for funds for the Hauraki Hut, and to arrange for a public, meeting to be addressed by some returned soldier or one of the returned chaplains, on the War Work of the Church Army, and to ask His Worship the Mayor to preside at the meeting.

It was decided to ask the different centres on the Hauraki Plains to assist the fund.
