HOW THE AMERICANS WILL FIGHT.

NO MERCY FOR HUN BRUTES.

Reuters correspondent at American headquarters says that the plain facts are that in the past months fighting, wherever the Germans met the Americans, the Germans were beaten, paying more dearly for defeat than theAmericans paid for victory. The . Americans resemble our Dominion soldiers more than- the British-born. They are not going to deal lightly with unsoldierly conduct, they are not easily going to forgive breaches of humanity. If forced to see rea it will be some time before they notice any other colour. They will have no mercy on men who do not fight * straight, and will avenge comrades slain by treachery, to the uttermost platoon they can lay hands on. . s The Germans will dislike them a£ much as they dislike the Canadians, Australians, and South Africans, and > - I think a little more. The American army includes many of German names and ancestry. A company of these marching to the front met some German prisoners, whom the Americans . assailed trenchantly and abusively in the German language for their obedience to such a misconceived hound as the Kaiser, for making themselves the scum of the earth by their fighting methods, so that their American relatives had to come 4000 miles to wipe them out. The prisoners were too amazed to reply.
