The task of securing Australian preference for Australian goods is one which should occupy the attention of the Interstate authorities ; although the prejudice against local manufactures is certainly dying there are still many who think along the old conventional lines and view with doubt and suspicion the products of our own country. Concrete evidence has proved that many articles may be as well and better made here than in the old world, and all that iB wanted is a distinct lead from a disinterested and authoritative source. It is encouraging to note that in 1908 the value of the output from Australian factories was as much ■as £99,000,000 ; while in 1912 it had increased to £148,000,000.
