A SURVIVOR OF ANOCF^AN CRIME. Amongst the survivors from ,the troopship Marquette, which was torpedoed in the sea, on the 23rd of last month, was Private G. W. Dempsey, who is well known in Paeroa, having been for some years on the staff of the local branch ,ot the National Bank. Pnvate Dempsey lett New Zealand on the staff of the first New Zealand Stationary Hospital, and on arrival in Egypt' was for some time attached to the New Zealand General Hospital^ at Port de Koubheh, near Cairo. He subsequently went to Port Said, when the 'first New Zealand Stationary Hospital was established there. From letters received, it appears that it was intended to transfer the hospital to the Gallipolil Peninsula) and no doubt it was in the carrying cut bt this intention that the hospital staff was on board the ill-fated troopship. No de- . tails of the disaster are yet to hand, but it is known that a number of the nurses and orderlies have lost their lives in the noble cause to which they had devoted themselves. ',
