The Ohinemuri Gazette. MONDAY, DEC. 5, 1910. LOCAL AND GENERAL.

A second-hand perambulator is advertised for sale.

A reward is offered for the recovery of a bowling medal that has been lost.

A youth for the Thames Valley Cooperative Dairying Company's butter factory is advertised for. Amongst the votes on the supplementary estimates passed by the House on Friday night was ,£l2O for the Paeroa police station. The Northern Steamship Company notifies that tickets between Paeroa and Auckland will be issued at the reduced price of ten shillings return from December 12 to January 7th, available for return for one month from date of issue.

Mr E. E. Gillman, architect, invites tenders for repairs and re-roofing grandstand at the racecourse at Paeroa. Plans and specifications may be seen at Mr Gilltnan's office, and tenders close at noon on Saturday, 17th inst.

Special services in connection with the anniversary of the Sunday school were held in the Paeroa Methodist Church yesterday. Mr G. B. Hinton, who is to take charge of the church, was the preacher both morning and evening, the attendance at the latter service being particularly good. A feature of the service was the singing by the choir, under the conductorship of Mr E. Bracewell, the organist being Miss Miller.

A meeting is to be held in the Council Chambers, Paeroa, on Wednesday evening at eight o'clock of those interested in the formation of a Rifle Club. Under the recent Defence Act more encouragement is given for the formation of Rifle Clubs than was formerly the case, and as there is plently of good material in this district a first-class club should be formed.

Many complaints are being made about the rough state of the new footpath being made in the main street in Paeroa. The loose stones on the footpath are a source of much inconvenience and annoyance, so m.nch so, indeed, that most pedestrians cross over to the path on the other side of the street. It should not be too much to expect that the loose stones will be raked off the path, and a heavy roller put on as soon as possible, so, as to lessen the trouble as much as possible. The new Roslyn writing pad (copyrighted) will be in the hands of drapers and storekeepers for sale next week. This is a very unique pad ; on the outer cover is an artistic sketch of New Zealand's wonderland Rotorua, together with a drawing of a very fascinating Maori maiden. The presence of this remarkable pad in every home is most desirable, not only for its utility as a writing convenience, but more particularly as an object lesson of cheerfulness and refined contentment. At the October sitting of the Te Aroha S.M. Court, G. Alley sued J. Hanks for ,£35 for grazing, and the issue was remitted by consent for Mr R. M. Madill, of Hamilton, as an expert, to assess the damages. Mr Alley agreed to reduce the ;claim by' ,£lO, The assessment report was handed in at last week's Court and is as follows:—To actual value of feed consumed by 87 dairy cows (from mid-day Sunday, July 24th, to mid-day Wednesday, 27th), owned.by Hanks, £2 18s; to extra value of feed when used as run off while feeding turnips, £2 17s 6d ; total loss to plaintiff, £$ 15s 6d ; my charges, £2 2s : total, £7-173 6d. %
