FAREWELL SOCIAL

A PHEASANT EVENING

Members of the Paeroa Tennis Club and Paeroa Debating Society entertained Rev. and Mrs Randcrson at a farewell musical evening in the Druids' Hall last night. Mr H. O. Searle occupied the chair, and .welcomed the guests of the evening. The entertainment was an iniormal one, the time being spent in social intercourse and in listening to the programme provided. Mr Karl Atkinson, who was in exceptionally good voice, contributed several vocal items, and Mrs Atkinson also greatly pleased those present with her rendering of musical selections. Rev. Randerson contributed a solo, and had to respond to an undeniable encore. Much of the success of the evening was due to Mr Harris, who told numerous stories in his well-known accomplished manner. Clarionet solos by Mr Mountjoy were also much appreciated, as also was a pianoforte solo by Miss D. Evans, that young lady also playing the accompaniments to the other items.

Just before supper Mr Elias Martin was called upon to make a presentation to Rev. and Mrs Randerson from the

members of the Tennis Club and Debating Society. Mr Martin spoke ot the many friends Mr and Mrs Randerson had made in Paeroa, and the regret felt at their departure. Mr Randerson had been an active tennis player for twoseasons past, and had made himself very popular with the members of the club, proving himself to be a " real good sport." He had also assisted the Debating Society, of which he was president, and it.was in a large measure due to his ability and his efforts that the society had been so successful. It therefore gave him (the speaker) much pleasure in handing to Mr Randerson from the subscribers a silver cake dish, and in expressing the hope that he and Mrs Randerson and the " son and heir " would have long life and prosperity and would remember the many friends they had made in Paeroa. Mr C. Meredith and Mr W. Niccol also-endorsed Mr Martin's remarks. Rev. Randerson, who was received with loud applause, said in reply that he thoroughly appreciated their good wishes and their handsome present. He and Mrs Randerson had made many friends in Paeroa, and they regretted having to part with those kind friends, but trusted that they would be able to meet many of them in their new home. An excellent supper, provided by the members of the ladies' committee, was much appreciated, and a pleasant evening concluded with the singing of " Auld Lang Syne " and cheers for the guests of the evening.
