SPORTS NOTES.

(By Solomon.)

The tennis players are stiil enthusiastic and there are general indicatons of . improvement. It is fully anticipated that by the end of the season the club will be able to hold its own with the different neighbouring clubs. Miss Kenny defeated Mrs Bush in a ladder match. This victory places Miss Kenny at the head of the ladies' ladder and it is now somewhat regrettable that such a fine and consistent net player should be associated in a combined double with a comparative novice. In the combined •double, Mrs Brunskill and Meredith v. Miss Kenny and Matthews. The latter combination through the ingenious playing of Miss Kenny succeeded in obtaining a surprising victory. It was fully expected that Meredith' and Mrs Brunskill would be victors but Meredith played very disappointingly, which practically accounted for the defeat. Smith and Clarkson seem a little languid ot late and both will require to get in more assiduous practice to warrant inclusion in representative matches. Quick is playing well, and also is Martin, who promises to be well up in the ladder later in the season. Misses Hubbard and Edwards are apparently improving. Miss Walmsley is still playing her consistent game and vanes little. A team from Karangahake will visit the local club on Saturday next, and iif the weather is fine some good play should be exhibited. The club is sorry indeed to lose the Rev. Randerson from its membership. He has always proved to be a good sport and has taken a keen interest in the game. The RemueraPolo Club has extended an invitation, to the local club to be present at its opening in Auckland on the 10th December, and it is understood that a team from Paeroa will accept. I regret having omitted Mrs Moresby's name from amongst the list, of the leading croquet players.
