"MESSAGE FROM THE SEA."

FOUND AT NETHERTON.

Airs S. J. Laughlm found a whisky bottle in the rive.r afc Nfctherton the other day that contained a piece of paper that purports to bo a message from the sea. The bottle evidently had been in the water for some time, and was rendered water tight by a cork wrapped round with a piece of material. The message, which was on a small piece of paper, reads aa follows:—" October 20th, 1906- Scow Ales from Hob art to Gisborne; latitudo 51, lougtitude 93. Heavy gale ; big seas; mainmast carried away by board; heavy list to port; pumps wont work 5 in a bad fix. Captain E; W. Sj'kes. Assistance wanted."

The message has every resemblance to a hoax.
