FOOTBALL.
■ |By Tey.l As the winter season will soon be with us* tootballs. jerseys, football boots/and the other necessary'• gear for the gopd old game, are being hunted up, and the " kickers " are discussing the favourite winter pastime. The' annual jmeetiug of the Paeroa Rugby Union is called for Tuesday next, ami I expect to £,cc a large and enthusiastic*gathering of players and those who take an interest in the gariie Last season was the most successful in the history of Paeroa as far as football was concerned, aud I believe the season of, 1903 will be fully as successful as its predecessor. Twelve mouths ago the scheme for a Rugby Union in Paeroa was bein,!.' discussed with much/ warmth, and I there were many who predicted disaster for the undertaking. But ; at the end ol: the year it would have been hard to find one who was not converted to the idea. That ■ Joeing so, I see no reason -why the scheme cannot he successfully earned on for another season The old committee has • a very pleasing report and balance-sheet to produce, and there will be a substantial sum with which to commence operations. . The chief business on Tuesday evening will ba the election of officers. The Union was fortunate last year in securing the services of .such an able secretary as Mr H. Bush, and .should he consent to stand again for the position, he will no doubt be re-elected unopposed. Some of the members of the old committee talk of making way for others, and as I hfau of a good many fresh as piranfcs for places on the committee, there will probably, be a contests That being no it behoves" all those who play "the game, or who take j • an interest in the game, to attend the meeting next Tuesday, and elect a real 1i ye committee. ;
