Fatal Accident at Thames.
Whilst thd p.s. Wakatere was at the Grahamstown Wharf on Wednesday afternoon, a shocking accident occured, resulting in? th« ,death of one of the crew, Thomas Perry. No one actually saw the occurrence, but it is supposed that deceased whilst adjusting the wire rope on the drub of Nthe steam winch, which was slowly working at the time, somehow overbalanced himself, and came in contact with the machinery, which struck him witib suph, force us to fragtr ure his skull, and break his jaw' bone andarm, Perry was at onge {xmyeyed to the Thames Hospital; but tUe casg was hopeless from first, and hel died fiye minutes after admission. An inquest was opened in the evening, and was adjourned untill'yesterday at:7.30 p.m., to allow witnesses from thei Wakatere to be preeent* Deceased; was about sixty years of age.
