Mr Deßakker will givo his second address to the Paoroa electors on Monday night. Mr Leo Deßakker had a most successful meeting at Kopu on Wednesday night, and he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A strongcommittee has.been formfid, and they ■will wor* up to six o'clock on pollingday. At the meeting of tho Auckland Board of Education on Wednesday it was decided to close the schools on the afternoon of the date of the general elections, so as to give teachers every facility to vote. Mr Deeble addressed a meeting of the electors at the Criterion Theatre, Paeroa, on Thursday evening, Mr 0. Oolclough presiding. There was a fair attendance, and at the conclusion of Ms address the candidate was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. In connection with the Local Option Poll, to be taken on Wednesday next, 'we understand that the Liquor Party and the Prohibition Party have each nominated two gentlemen to appoint scrutineers at each ballot box in the interests of their party. The gentlerno.i appointed to select scrutineers must be approved of by tho Kegistrar, who will consider objections, if any, to thoir appointment to-day. Mr Moss desires us to intimate that the statement in the Auckland Star, that he is the Opposition candidate for Ohinemuri, is not correct, as he is standing as a Government supporter, and only requires a free haud in connection with matters relating to native lands, the liquor trade, and mining. Our Turua correspondent writes :— " On Wednesday, the 22nd ult., Mr McCullough addressed the electors of this place in the Victoria Hall, Mr L. J. Bagnall being in the chair. The candidate's address was an interesting and instructive one, and was listened to with great attention, and at the close a number of questions were asked and answered to the satisfaction of all. The candidate received a unanimous vote of thanks, and a similar one to the chairman brought the meeting to a close. —On Friday, the 24th ult., we had Mr Moss, another of the candidates for Ohinemuri, here. He addressed the electors, of whom there was a large attendance, for an hour and a-half, most of the time being taken up with <no license.' The candidate received a vote of thanks, and one was also accorded the chairman. "
