The Catholic vote; the Masonic vote ; the Prohibition vote; the vote for the canvasser who pulls you in a corner and shouts; the vote you promise to the tomfool on whose tongue you could strike a match; the foolish fit of friendship vote; the liar's promise, and that of the man who is not on the roll at all; the beer chewer's solemn handshake at sight of sixpence; the smile of the barmaid, who is so sure your boy will be Premier, " isn't he nice ?" ; the vehement statement of the stone breaking man who licks his hand and waits till you say you will not vote for his v nark." Of such is the kingdom of one man' one vote,—or rather, as at present, one man one league. This league business is absolutely the funniest thing yet produced . outside a comic opera. Two or three are gathered together, where the sacred incense of Usher or Robertson, Hennessey or Red Heart fills the midnight air. In solemn secrecy and with a yawning landlord, who hopes they will meet in hi 3 parlour, they "form a league." Gad, it's funny. Then they club up and send a wire to the Premier. This is one of the easiest things out. Even this paper could send a wire to the Premier. If it had the money it could send one to the Czar. Then this federation of the three Boozers of Anywhere gets a fool reply from a private secretary, and carefully folding up the body of the reply telegram, which contains nothing, shows a signature and" works " with great care and cheerfulness. The one man who has got the one vote wiuks back, and then there is a moiety of a 6d for the brewer. Tell us the fact, -ye Asmodeus, who has the gift of lifting the top of the cavity of the skull, and seeing therein the convolution of the grey matter of the human brain. We refuse to believe that the large majority of the electors have any opinion at all on this fool-election now taking place. But mind you. mind you well, it is a serious thing. Fancy an electorate, as we reiterate, the most important electorate in the colony, being represented by (fill this in yourself). Make no error. It is a serious, almost a solemn thing you have to do when you take your blue pencil in your hand,
