, [ ..-■ St. Peteesbukg, May 31. A terrible scene took place at the peasants' feast held outside Moscow in honour of the Czar's coronation. An immense crowd'of about 400,000 were assembled, and the accomodation not being adequate the people "niadly rushed the booths. The crowds were wedged in a narrow passage, the pressure was terrific, people being trampled to death chiefly women and children. The hollows in the ground proved great death traps. The Police and Cossack soldiers were quite unable to stop. the mad rush.

It is officially a 1 nounced that 1100 were killed, and 450 injured. The Czar is deeply distressed at the disaster and has assigned a sum of one thousand roubles to each of the bereaved families.
