Traffic Offences

THIRTY-FOUR CHARGES

Thirty-four charges involving breaches of the traffic laws were heard by Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. One case was dismissed after the defendant had given evidence and on the remaining charges fines totalling £77 with costs (£l6 16s) were imposed. Costs, with three exceptions, were fixed at 10s. Dangerous Driving For driving in a dangerous manner Rex Limbriol Marshall was fined £lO and his licence suspended until December 30. Francis Raymond Hunt was fined £5 on a similar charge. For driving without due care Eric William Clement was fined £2 and Neil Johnstone, 10s. Michael David Fitzgerald was fined £3 for exceeding 30 m.p.h; Thomas Norman Johnston, £3- Bernard John Riley, £3: Maurice Bernstein, £4: Douglas Robert Clyma, £2; Stanley Fleming Greenslade, £4; William James Motion, £2 10s and Kenneth Foster Nicholson, £4. Parking Breaches The charge against Harold Maude Roxby, who pleaded not guilty to parking over the time limit was dismissed. Frank Hall, who parked his vehicle 19J hours in a 15 minute area was fined £2. On similar charges, John Kenneth Begg, Redmond Moreau Carroll and Kenneth Boyd McDiarmaid were each fined 10s. For parking on a fire plug, Herbert Kenneth Harwood and James Kenneth Hodgson were each fined £l. William James Lennon was fined £1 for parking on an angle and John Reid Murdoch was similarly fined for parking over an entrance. Donald Bruce Ritchie was fined 10s for parking too near a corner and Florence Rita Brown 10s for parking in a prohibited area. Insecure Loads Fines of £5 were imposed on Frank Callender and Eric Alexander Gillett for driving with insecurely fastened loads. John Hall Dippie, from whose truck 12 bales of wool fell off, was fined £7 10s. Other Charges For driving an unlicensed vehicle, Bernard John Riley and Reginald Albert Rodgers were each fined 10s. Rodgers was also fined 10s for having no warrant and 10s for having no registration plates. William John Grigg was fined £1 for driving without a licence. Russell George Clearwater was fined £2 for failing to give way to a pedestrian: Bernard Samson, 30s for riding a horse on a footpath and Southern Services, Ltd., 30s for exceeding the maximum load.

Machines trom the Central Fire Station attended a gorse fire near the Main North road yesterday at 6.51 p.m. No damage was caused by the fire.
