Catholic Laity Supports Bishop Liston PA AUCKLAND. Dec. 11. Thirty years ago tomorrow, Dr J. M. Liston, fQr the past 21 years Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, was consecrated bishop at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Dunedin. Born in Dunedin in 1881, he was educated at the Christian Brothers’ college in that city and in Sydney, Dublin and Rome. One of Bishop Liston’s greatest interests is in education, and during his term in Auckland he has been instrumental in founding and developing many educational institutions in his diocese. The hall was opened earlier this year as a teachers’ training college for religious sisters.
