Another Otago Record J. JARVIS WINS MILE SWIM 'John Jarvis, the 15-year-old New Zealand Junior Boys’ Freestyle champion, registered his seventh title victory at the Otago swimming championships last night when he won the One Mile Men’s Freestyle Championship in a field of six in 23min 4 3-ssec. This clipped 49 3-ssec off the Otago record of 23min 56sec, established by T. E. Wilson in 1947. The New Zealand record is 21min 54 l-ssec, established in 1949 by the Empire Games representative, F. R. Lucas, of Auckland. Jarvis was pushed over the first quarter of a mile by the Otago Men’s Backstroke and 880 Yards Freestyle champion, L. Hurring, who swam backstroke all the way. After leaving the 220 yards mark behind in 2min 45sec, the time of Jarvis and Hurring for the 440 yards was smin 44sec. At the half-mile, however, Jarvis led by 20 yards, in llmin 36sec.
