SOUTH SCHOOL PICNIC
The Oamaru South School’s annual picnic was held at Victoria Park, Waimate, on Saturday, over 700 people being present, 600 of them travelling by special train. The day was fine but a strong north-west wind made conditions somewhat uncomfortable. A short sports programme catering for young and old was held. During the afternoon, the Mayor of Waimate, Mr W. F. Boland, expressed pleasure that the school committee hacl decided to hold the picnic at Waimate. Mr R. H. Watson, chairman, thanked Mr Boland and the Waimate Borough Council for supplying hot water and milk and an attendant.
