HENLEY SCHOOL

Diamond Jubilee CELEBRATIONS NEXT MONTH The sixtieth anniversary of the Henley School will be celebrated next month. Former pupils of the Taieri Ferry School, which started in 1872 and was closed in 1924, will be associated in the celebrations. Many pupils attended both schools. The jubilee celebrations will extend from Friday, January 19, to Monday, January 22. A ball will be held on the Friday night in the Henley Hall. On Saturday afternoon, the roll call will be taken at the school. Saturday night will be the occasion for a banquet in the Henley Hall, and it is hoped Ihat among those present will be the Minister of Internal Affairs, and member of Parliament for the district, Mr Bodkin, and also Mr George Overton. the retired chief inspector of schools, who is a former pupil. At 2.30 p.m. on the Sunday, a church parade will take place in the Henley Hall. On the Monday, a picnic will be held in the school grounds during the afternoon, and at night there will be an old-time concert and dance in the Henley Hall. Great interest is being taken in the forthcoming celebrations, and former pupils from all parts of New Zealand have accepted invitations to attend. The fiftieth jubilee, although the war was in progress, was an unqualified success.
