YACHT’S VISIT
Arrival At Auckland On World Voyage PA AUCKLAND, Dec. 9. Stoertbecker 111, a boat already well known in yachting circles in the Baltic, Germany, England and the United States, sailed into Auckland yesterday from England by way of the Panama Canal and Tonga in the course of a world voyage which began in September, 1949. Owned and skinpered bv 45-year-old Mr Franklin Evans, of Kent, she had only one other crew member, 20-year-old Frank Jensen of Norway. They intend to spend several months in Auckland. The Stoertbecker was built by Abeking and Rasmussen, in Germany, in 1937, and was widely publicised in the same year when Captain Slimbach, founder of ocean racing in Germany, made a single-handed Atlantic crossing in her. She is 33ft 6in overall and her lines have been admired all over the world. Since leaving England on her present cruise she has called at Lisbon. Casablanca, the Canary Islands. Cap Verde. Barbados (one month’s cruising), Jamaica, Panama, Galapagos (six weeks), the Marquesas, Tuamotus, Tahiti. Rarotonga (in one month), Tonga and Sunday Island.
