DISASTROUS DROUGHT

Sir,—Your report in last Tuesday’s Daily Times in reference to the drought in Central Otago makes dismal reading. Experienced men of the land are well aware that when the pasture is over-run and eaten out by rabbits then is the time that the drought becomes more serious, hence the appalling conditions under rabbit board control in Central Otago. Fal'mers of long experience are now more than ever convinced that as long as the present policy of devaluation is continued the danger of serious drought is ever present. What is wanted is a return to common sense, and the more orthodox method of rabbit control.—l am, etc., Lawrence. R. C. Read.
