NO CONTEST
Invercargill Mayoralty MR AITCHISON WITHDRAWS PA INVERCARGILL, Nov. 7. There will now be no contest for the mayoralty of Invercargill. The present Mayor, Mr W. Aitchison, announced to the City Council tonight that he had ’withdrawn his nomination. The only other nominee, Mr B. W. Hewat, has been declared duly elected as Mayor. Mr Aitchison told the City Council that circumstances had arisen which prevented him from contesting the seat, and that he was going back to his original intention to retire from local, body politics. Mr Aitchison announced originally that he would not contest the mayoralty, but later allowed his nomination to be submitted when it became evident that no other member of the present council nad been nominated.
