Approach Of Marching Season

With the approach of the first local marching contest, to be held at Green Island on November 4 under the control of the Suburban Marching Association, most teams are concentrating on diagram marching, comments our marching correspondent. A generous gesture has been made by the local bands, which, when practising for the quickstep, have taken time off to play for marching teams on the same ground. Appreciated, too, is the lone piper who plays for the DIC team.

A recent visitor to Dunedin was Mr George Austad, who is resident delegate for Otago in Wellington. He is the first life member of the New Zealand Marching Association. He met marching officials while in Dunedin and gave an address on matters of interest to local delegates. A move is afoot to start marching in the colleges, and several instructors have expressed their willingness to assist in this important development. Two instructors who are doing fine work are Miss Sally Stevens, of DIC, and Miss Nancy Byrne, of Caversham Tikis.
