CITIZEN CANDIDATES
Sir, —I am confused about recent letter* to your paper with veiled insinuations of Independents coming out in local body elections. Surely this country has not got to the stage where people are to ba silenced over matters of decency and Justice because of petty party politics. If, for Instance, Dr North and Miss Roberts stood as Independents, how could they possibly be accused of vote-splitting? Neither of these people are Socialists, and anyone voting for them would be merely casting a Vote as they did in the last election, for two people they considered fit to represent the anti-Soclalist forces. It would indeed be a relief to be able to act for once clear of party machines and safely as well.—l am, etc., Let Us Progress.
