IMPRESSIVE WINNER

Mobile Globe Has Been Consistent

entered for forbury park

Mobile Globe added to his consistent record when he scored a narrow win in the Henry Mace Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday. Starting from the back mark of 36 yards, he was a good way back for the major portion of the journey, but when hurried along he soon raced round the field and caught Awadale, the pacemaker, just short of the post. Last season Mobile Globe had 14/ starts for three wins and six placings, and this term he has had two wins and a second in his three appearances. He started off by running second to Fortuna in the Queen Mary Handicap on the second day of the Addington Grand National meeting, and at New Brighton a fortnight later he beat Fabric Silk in the Electric Handicap, his time of 2min 39 3-ssec for the mile and a-quarter being a solid effort. Owned by Messrs C. Smith and J. Findlay and trained by C. M. Laing at Ashburton, he was bred at Rangiora by Mr N. G. Mason. He is a six-year-old gelding by Springfield Globe from Helen Ann, by Silk Thread from Helen, By Brent Locanda from Tui Russell, by Russell Patch from Elie de Beaumont,. by Prince Imperial. Mobile Globe is the first of Helen Ann’s progeny to race. His second dam, Helen, left Flying Helen (the dam of Congo Song), Gold Finder, Slippery Paper (the dam of Wanda), and Gold Winner. Mobile Globe can both sprint and stay, and his winning run is not finished yet. He has won his way to a 4min 26sec mark for two miles, and he will probably be seen in action at the Forbury Park spring meeting, which opens on Saturday week. Jottings

Handicaps for the first day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s spring meeting will be declared on Monday, and withdrawals are due the same day.

Desert Flight's third placing in the Oneroa Handicap at Epsom was a useful effort, and he can be noted for an early success.

Lisnaskea was backed and beaten in the Orari Trot at Geraldine, but the son of Jack Potts should soon make amends. He is now trained by C. R. B'erkett ' Diligent should soon improve on his second to Johnny Globe at New Brighton on Saturday. He hat been nominated for the Forbury Park meeting next month, and he should pay expenses. Trained at Oamaru

Sandova followed up his good second to Major Gaillard at the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting'by taking the major honours in the Domain Trot at the Geraldine meeting on Saturday. A likely improver, Sandova is a four-year-old gelding by Sandydale from Tarisha. He is owned by Mr A. Brown and trained at Oamaru by R. J. Cleave, who drove him in Saturday’s race. Useful Effort

Java, who started from 96 yards behind in the Nicoll Handicap at New Brighton •on Saturday, went a fine race to finish right up with the placed horses. The Nelson Derby gelding led into the straight, but found his early handicap too much over the last bit. The first time he is better placed he should prove hard to beat. He has more than average ability. High-class Effort

Parawa Derby gave further evidence of his' class when he outclassed First Lord in the Ferguson Handicap at Epsom \on Saturday His time of 4min 15 3-ssec was a splendid effort, and has seldom been bettered by a horse in his class. The Dillon Hall gelding is now on 4min 24sec for iwo miles, and even if he does not qualify for the New Zealand Cup this year he should be an interesting contestant at the inter-dominion championship meeting next February. Te Maru Again

Te Maru did not have to do his best to outclass the field in the Bowhill Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday. Te Maru has now won at his two appearances this season, and he will add interest to the Forbury Park meeting next month. The Sandydale colt has built up a fine record since being trained by M. Holmes, and he seems to have lost most of the waywardness which cost him several races early in his career. Te Maru should win his way to the best classes this season. Dual Winner

Sir Rose came into his own at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, when he accounted for both the '•aces for straightout trotters. He had comfortable victories, and in each of them he was a long odds. Sir Rose, who is owned and trained at Morrinsville by T. Eynon, failed badly in his race the previous week. He is an aged gelding by Surprise Journey from Rose Marble. He more than paid his way last season, when he had two wins and three placings from 15 starts. Now that he has struck form again, he should continue to pay his way, although he is at an age where little improvement can be expected. Solid Effort

Black Storm, a noted mudlark, showed that he was at home on a firm track by taking the major prize in the Putiki Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. He showed plenty of speed, and won well from Hopeful and the win favourite, Robin Adair. Black Storm came into his own towards the end of last season, when he won three successive races on the Auckland winter circuit. On each occasion the track \as slow, and he outclassed his opponents Black Storm, a half-brother by Dillon Hall to Ada Scott and Tom Gundy, is bred to go a long way, and he should continue to pay his way this season. False Price

Hilda Scott, a consistent performer last season, was allowed to go out at false odds in the Farewell Handicap at the New Brighton meeting. She was always handy, and she finished too well for the others to pay £6l 16s for a win. Hilda Scott had riot been placed in her three races earlier in the season, but she had given the impression that she would soon return to her best. Last term she scored three wins and was in the minor money on six occasions from 17 starts. She is owned by Mr T. Lee and trained at Christchurch by S. A. Edwards. She is a six-year-old niare by U. Scott from Dawn Lorna, the dam also of Sir Gaillard, Ann Volo, and Lady Diane.
