Four New Appointments To Legislative Council
PA WELLINGTON, July 27. The, Government has found that insufficient provision has been made in the recent appointments to the Legislative Council to ensure the passing of its legislation and has therefore made four additional appointments. This was announced by the Prime Minister, Mr Holland, tonight. He added that the death of Sir Apirana Ngata, which had left the Maori people without representation, and the sickness of other members had left the Government without a working majority in the Legislative Council. It had therefore been decided to make the following additional appointments: —Mr J.i S. Allen, farmer, Tirau, Cheviot; Mr W. D. Bell, farmer, Rangitumau; Mr C. H. Croker, solicitor, New Plymouth; and Mr H. T. U. Marumaru, farmer, Bulls.
