OBITUARY
Mrs Jessie M. Jones An old identity, Mrs Jessie M. Jones, died recently at Mount McKay, Matarae. She was a daughter of Mr and Mrs John Stewart, passengers in the ship Robert Henderson, which arrived at Port Chalmers in 1858. Her parents settled at Stpneburn, later removing to Palmerston, where she was born in 1872. She married Mr William George Jones, one of the original settlers of
Strath-Taieri, who died 11 years ago. Mrs Jones and her husband were among the first exhibitors at the agricultural arid pastoral show in the district. ,
Mrs Jones was a member of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association. She was keenly interested in St. Chad’s Anglican Church, Middlemarch. Many will remember her for her elocutionary items at public functions in earlier years and the hospitality they received in her home.
She is survived by four sons—Messrs Herbert, William, James, and Alfred Jones.
