BOXING

Mullett Beats Pippett LAST MINUTE KNOCK-OUT PA WELLINGTON, July 24. Don Mullett, the New Zealand heavy-weight champion, recorded one of his best performances when he knocked out the Australian, Ross Pippett. 30 seconds before the end of their 12-round contest in the Wellington Town Hall tonight. Pippett showed superb courage in conceding nearly 2st and height and reach, but though giving Mullett a boxing lesson in several rounds, he appeared to be struggling through the last three. Had he weathered them, the decision on points may have gone his way for the third time, but he erred in the final round when he ran into a perfect uppercut to the jaw and was counted out while vainly trying to rise. Pippett was dazed after the match and was admitted to the Wellington Hospital for observation.
