Mr A. J. Rae, senior maintenance fitter at the City Gasworks, has been appointed to the position of works foreman. A letter was received by the City Council last night from Wing Commander C. A. Turner, of the RNZAF Station at Taierf, expressing thanks for the hospitality of the council on July 11 when a civic reception was extended to Wing Commander Turner and officers of the force. Mr T. L. Hayman, M.P. (Studholme Junction) and Mr Charles Hilgendorf (Ashburton) have been appointed to the Boards of Directors of the Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Association and the Farm Accounting Association. The City Council decided last night to send a letter of sympathy to Mrs S. G. Scoular, wife of the city engineer. Mr Scoular has been in hospital for some weeks. Piper, who has retired on pension; and Mr N. Brown, as manager of the Gore branch.
