CHILD MISSING

Police Inquiries Being Intensified LONG LAPSE OF TIME PA WHANGAREI, June 11. An extensive search is being made by the police at Helena Bay in endeavouring to locate Leslie Ronald Shortcliffe,. six and a-half years of age, who has been missing since early 1949 Following inquiries in' Northland and Auckland, inquiries have been concentrated at Helena Bay, where, before he disappeared, the boy lived in a tent with his father. Yesterday, Inspector P. Munro took personal charge of the inquiries and started a search which is being continued by police officers today. The area where the boy was last seen by district residents is covered with light tea trees, open glades of trees, and is swampy. The boy, a half-caste Maori, is described as having straight, dark brown hair and brown eyes, and of sturdy physique and quiet disposition.
