DIPLOMATIC POST IN DOMINION

PA AUCKLAND, May 16. Mr D. Wharton, new United States diplomatic representative in New Zealand, arrived in the Aorangi today. He said that until two days ago he had understood he was to be Consul at Auckland, but would now be going to the Embassy at Wellington in some capacity. Afghanistan, where Mr Wharton had his last post as economic attache to the United States Embassy, was still as strategic a country as ever it was. he said. Mr Wharton is accompanied by his wife and two children.
