WAR MEDALS
Question Of Engraving
Because of their design, war medals would have to be engraved on the rim and this would cause certain mechanical difficulties. This was mentioned by two Auckland disabled servicemen who operate an engraving business, in a letter received by the executive of the Dunedin RSA last night. The Auckland men pointed out that to do the work, existing machines would have to be remodelled or a new machine brought from overseas. In the meantime, they were seeking some idea of the number of ex-servicemen who would wish to have their service medals engraved. From a survey which they had made, it appeared likely that such work could be done for 2s a medal.
The secretary, Mr O. L. Ferens, stated that information had been sought from the Dominion Executive on the matter but no reply had been received. It was decided to ask for a reply, and to forward a copy of the letter from the Auckland men to the Dominion Executive.
