Steamer Aground Off Coast Of Queensland
NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8.45 p.m. BRISBANE, May 15. The British steamer Marietta Dal, of 7236 tons, is badly aground off Cape Moreton, Queensland. A radio report from the vessel stated that she was making water. A pilot vessel is standing by and two tugs are making their best speed towards the scene. The ship is caught on a shoal two miles off the north-east corner of Moreton Island, and the lighthouse reports that she is well down by the head. The vessel, which was built in 1944 to American Liberty pattern, was bound from American Gulf ports for Brisbane with a cargo of sulphur and general merchandise. /
