BOUND FOR ENGLAND
Farewell To Mr Ken Smith Mr Ken Smith, the champion cornetist of Australia and New Zealand, left Dunedin yesterday on the limited express on the first part of his journey to England, where he has accepted an engagement with the band of the Fairey Aviation Works. There was a large crowd on the platform, which included the Mayor and the president of the St. Kilda Band, Mr J. J. Marlow. The St. Kilda Band played a number of selections, and with the express leaving the platform, it serenaded the departing bandsman with “ Wish Me Luck as You Wave Me Good-bye.’’ Mr Smith and his father, Mr K. G. L. Smith, were guests of the Mayor at morning tea in the mayoral chambers, and Sir Donald gave Mr Smith letters of introduction to friends in the British Isles.
