PRIVATE REPUTATION

Scott Junior Is Speedy Scott Junior failed to strike his hopples at the start of the Welcome Handicap No. 2 at Oamaru, and the field was well on its way before he settled down. Once he did, he showed a fine burst of speed, but his chance had gone. A three-year-old colt by U. Scott, he is from the Wrack mare Cisterna, who is from Kitty Parrish, by Guy Parrish from Royal Empress, by Logan Pointer. Scott Junior has a private reputation and may live up to it before long. Prior to the race he cast a shoe and this may have unsettled him. Jottings At a recent meeting In Launceston every winner on the card was sired by Raider. Belmont Ha" who was formerly owned and raced by Mr J. Richardson, of Dunedin, is now in South Australia, and is advertised to stand at a fee of 50 guineas. Showed Speed r At one stage of the Ascot Vale Handicap at Oamaru Kerry Girl looked like winning all the way, but she drifted over the concluding stages to finish out of the picture. The Sandydale mare may be better suited by a shorter journey. Trotted Solidly Globe Son accelerated quickly at the start of the Ascot Vale Handicap and trotted solidly all the way to finish second to Rear Light. The five-year-old son of Springfield Globe should be hard to beat when he is more favourably placed in the handicaps. A Good Performance Gunsmoke's performance In finishing fourth in the final event at the Invercargill meeting was a good one as he tangled about three furlongs from home when he collided with Pretty Dillon. He finished with a great run. Lucky Jack Gelding Tiberius tried to lead all the way in the Plunket Stakes at Oamaru, but weakened into fourth place. The Lucky Jack gelding should develop into. a smart four-year-old. From Rustic Maid The Easter Cup. run at Perth, was won by the former New Zealand gelding, Highland Scott, who is by U. Scott from Rustic Maid, by Rey de Oro from Country Belle, by Wildmoor from Bonnie Belle, by Lincoln Yet from an Arab mare. Rustic Maid has thrown a family of winners in Gallant Maid, Scottish Lady, Scottish Lord, Slavonic, Rustic Gold, Free Fight. Helali and Chamfer. Harold Park Winner Among the winners at a recent meeting at Harold Park, in Sydney, was Willie Winkie. an aged Wrack gelding, who was previously in G. S. Smith’s stable at Addington. Another winner at the meeting was the New Zealand-bred two-year-old colt Manacouri, who is by Grattan Loyal from Lake Arrowhead, by Great Bingen from Helen, a half-sister to Flying Helen, the dam of Congo Song. Impressive Winner Tactician, the impressive winner of the Bruce Memorial Handicap at Oamaru, is a four-year-old gelding by Springfield Globe from Berengaria, by Jack Potts from Waress, the dam of Plunder Bar, Indigo and West Point. A smooth type of pacer, Tactician should take high honours as a stayer. His win on Saturdav was his third this season.
