CLOSURE DEMANDED
Two Czech Consulates In United States NZPA—Copyright WASHINGTON, Rec. 7.50 p.m. May 13. The United States today demanded that Czechoslovakia close its Consulates in Cleveland and Pittsburgh and recall some 22 of its officials. The demand was made in retaliation for the Czech expulsion of two-thirds of the American diplomatic officials in Czechoslovakia. The Czech Embassy in Washington and Consulate in New York will be permitted to remain open. The State Department said the Czechs would be given reasonable time to leave the United States. In Prague yesterday the Czechoslovak Government called on the British Embassy to close all offices of the British Information Service and the British Council in Czechoslovakia by mid-day today. The Czech Government gave both organisations till May 20 to wind up all their affairs in Czechoslovakia. The British Information Service was attacked last month by two former employees who alleged that it was a centre of antistate activities and espionage for the British authorities.
