SETTLING DOWN
The Property Market BUYERS MORE CAUTIOUS Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, May 14. The real estate market in the capital shows clear signs of settling down after the first flurry of buying and selling which followed the removal of the land sales restrictions on urban properties. Whereas buyers bid with little restraint at the earlier sales, there is now a note of caution at auction sales, and day after day vendors are finding it impossible to sell at their reserve figures. Agents are obliged to tell their customers that they must restrict themselves to reasonable prices if they are to have any hopes of selling. Tenanted properties have in many cases proved quite unsaleable, even at reasonable figures.
