FAMINE IN CHINA

Reports Confirmed PA- WELLINGTON, May 12. Confirmation of the serious famine conditions in China has been received in letters from CORSO representatives in that country and from Father F* Maguire, of the Catholic Welfare Committee of China, according to a statement by the Dominion secretary of CORSO, Mb Colin W. Morrison. CORSO’s representative in Shanghai stated that 40.000,000 people were affected. Seven million were in acute danger despite emergency relief programmes organised by the Government. Another letter to CORSO from its Shanghai representative said there was no doubt that the help given by New Zealand people would be appreciated and that it would have lasting effects for good on the relations between New Zealand and China.
