FORWARD TUSSLE
Kaikorai’s Narrow Win The forwards predominated in the match at Bishobscourt where Kaikorai beat Union by 12 points to 9. Union had a slight lead at half-time but the Kaikorai team adapted itself to the heavy ground in the second spell and added the ’necessary points for victory. L. Marks and L. Corcoran led the winning pack in both the tight and loose play and the half-back, N. Hughes, who was the outstanding back on the field, made the most of his opportunities. His outside man HFea, kicked judiciously and Kaikorai held a territorial advantage for most of the game. _ „ , For Union R. Smithcram and G. Porteous worked hard in the pack and R. Elvidge, although closely watched when Union had the ball, was outstanding on defence. The full-back, J. Preston also proved efficient in his berth under trying conditions. Tries were scored for Kaikorai by Fea and Hughes, the latter also kicking two goals from penalties. Smitheram, W. Woods and E. Cameron each scored a try for Union. The referee was Mr A. Halligan.
