Peace Of World Is Held In Hands Of Empire Nations
N ZP A—Copyright Rec. 8.15 p.m. OTTAWA, May 11. The peoples of the British Commonwealth held in their hands the peace of the world. Sir Basil Brooke, Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, said today. Speaking at the Canadian Club he said: “In the world today there exists only one bloc of nations whose Governments have proved they can work together in war and peace—the British Empire and Commonwealth. In spite of the impoverishment of war, the United Kindom. is still the beating heart of this great community of nations. The people of the United States and Commonwealth have rallied to her side in this crisis.”
Sir Basil, who is on the first stage of a tour of Canadian cities, devoted most of his speech' to discussion of the Irish partition question. He said: “We in Northern Ireland have no intention of allowing ourselves to be pressured out of the British Commonwealth. We regard membership on the Commonwealth as a precious possession.
