COST OF LIVING

Protest Against Increase

HUTT WORKSHOPS EMPLOYEES PA WELLINGTON, May 12. At a largely-attended combined meeting held in the Hutt Railway Workshops today, the following resolution was carried:—“ That this meeting vigorously protests against the Government’s further vicious and unwarranted attack on the living conditions of the working people and their dependents; that we request our national executives to approach the Federation of Labour to call on all working-class organisations to organise some definite action of protest on the opening day of Parliament; that, the Government having attained the Treasury benches on a policy for the reduction of the cost of living, and having failed to implement such policy, we call upon it to resign and face the electors on this issue; that our respective branch officials acquaint the Wellington Trades Council with our decision and ascertain what action it proposes to take.”
