GARDENS CROQUET
The Gardens Croquet Club was fortunate in having a fine day for its closing. Mrs Forrest welcomed the visitors and the afternoon was spent in competition. The senior competition, between Awamoa and Gardens, was won by Mrs Miller, with Mrs Brehaut runner-up. Trophies won during the year were presented as follows; —Mary Kirkness Cup and Mrs Barclay’s trophy. Mrs Colquhoun; runner-up, Miss J. Ireland. Jessie Browntee’s cup and Mrs Wade’s trophy: Miss J. Ireland; runner-up. Miss B. Butterfield. Mrs Cout'ts’s trophy; Mrs Cleverley. The annual meeting of the club was held recently, when a vote of thanks was accorded Messrs J. Tate and Burgess for their care and attention to the lawns. Officers elected were:—President. Miss Ireland; senior vice-president, Mrs Cleverley junior vice-president, Mrs Wade; secretary, Mrs Hurst; treasurer, Mrs Barclay; captain. Miss J. Ireland; deputycaptain, Mrs Tait; conveners, Mrs Archibald and Miss Brownlee; committee— Mesdames Brehaut, Coutts, Forrest and Jamieson; delegates to South Canterbury Association, Mrs Cleverley, Miss J. Ireland. V
